Quarrying

Motorboss was fitted to a rock crusher in Norway used to crush
granite. The mill is capable of producing 65 tonnes of product
in 5 minutes.
When loaded the 400kW motor absorbed between 375 and 450kW,
during the idling phase the motor absorbed 181kW.
During normal operation the motor was idling for around 40 minutes
in every hour of the crushers 8 hour working day. Prior to installation
readings were taken of the motors total demand to give a total
of 496,000 kWh per year. After Motorboss was installed demand
was reduced to 454,000 kWh.
Savings
of 8.5% of the motors total demand were recorded achieving a
payback of less than 18 months.
Soft
start features within Motorboss reduced the starting current
to 50% of the DOL value reducing peak demand.
Controlled starting torque greatly increased the life of the
drive belts that previously failed with monotonous regularity.
